Science issues figured prominently on the Agenda of the Food Systems Summit

The Scientific Group organized a session at the UNFSS2021 Pre-Summit held in Rome from July 26th-28th. The session “Science and Innovation for Food Systems – Serving People and Planet” was moderated by the chair of the Scientific Group, Professor Joachim von Braun, and Magdalena Skipper, Editor in Chief of NATURE. It was organised in three blocks, adressing different topics.

Block 1: Bio-Science, Digital Sciences and Agronomy Innovations

Block 2: Science Serving End Hunger and Safe and Nutritious Food for All

Block 3: Science and Institutional Innovations for Food Systems Sustainability

Members of the Scientific Group took part in various other sessions at the Pre-Summit to adress science related topics. Professor von Braun spoke in the opening plenary (min 30-35) and gave closing remarks in the closing session (min 1.39 – 1.41). UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohamed gave positive assessment of the contributions of the Scientific Group and thanks the Group led by Professor von Braun in the closing session.
